Targa Adelaide 2012
The concept of the Australian Targa Championship
is drawn directly from the best features of the Targa Florio, Mille
Miglia, the Coupe des Alpes and the Tour de Corse. However, the
Australian Targa Championship is not a slow motion re-run, it is a
genuine "red-blooded" motorsport competition.
The
championship is comprised of 4 rounds, starting with Supaloc Targa
Adelaide in August, Targa High Country (Victoria) in November, Targa
Wrest Point in Hobart during the month of February and the series
finishes with Ultimate Tarmac Rally, Targa Tasmania across the state of
Tasmania in April. The format provides a unique opportunity for the
owners of sports cars and GTs to drive them the way they were designed
to be driven, on some of the most exciting and challenging tarmac roads
in the world,

The Jaguar Drivers Club of South Australia along with other car clubs in Adelaide was invited to enter 10 cars in the "Tour Section" of Targa Adelaide 2012 at a very tempting price. The tour section involved participation in the Prologue Night Stage at Wayville Showground Adelaide where a 3Km circuit was prepared and each vehicle allowed two "spirited " laps of the track. An amazing experience with 23,000 spectators turning up for the show. The evening also provided the opportunity to get close up and personal with the drivers and the cars participating in the competition stages. The following video gives a brief glimpse of the evening.

So I decided to have a go! I entered the XJC in the club tour section. This gave the opportunity for for two fast laps of the showground circuit on the first night and eight closed road sections of touring in the Adelaide Hills on the Saturday. A few pictures give a further glimpse of this fantastic Tour.
